- Install your floor under natural light conditions. This will help you to sort out possible defects and better see grain and color variations in boards. As a result you will have a more balanced floor.
- Before installation cut the bottom of doorframes, so you can slide flooring boards under.
- Determine board direction. For maximum support it is strongly recommended to install floor boards at 90 or 45 degree angle to the joists.
- For floors wider than 20 feet use a washer or a spacer or leave additional space every 4 rows to minimize expansion. Remove spacers after floor is installed.
- Be careful and prevent damage to finished boards. Vacuum and sweep floor frequently while installing. Make sure the bottom of your work shoes is clean.
- Before you begin try your nailer on a scrap board. Adjust air pressure as recommended by the nailer manufacturer. Keep the nailer base plate clean at all times to prevent damage to the finish. Check nailer condition regularly.
- Always leave a few boards for possible future repairs.
