Dialogue Across Eras

In the heart of Moscow, on Mir Avenue, a 1938 apartment brings together architectural heritage, family memory and a contemporary understanding of comfort.

Set within a listed cultural heritage building, the renovation called for a particularly sensitive approach. Rather than radically transforming the original layout, the architects chose to work with the existing spatial structure, preserving the character of the historic interior while adapting it to the needs of modern family life.

Elements from the past were carefully reintroduced into the everyday setting. An antique piano, a restored chandelier, carved timber details and vintage objects now sit naturally alongside contemporary furniture and modern technical solutions, creating a quiet dialogue between different eras.

Coswick hardwood flooring laid in a classic herringbone pattern became one of the defining elements of the interior. Its precise geometry echoes the architecture of the apartment, reinforcing the proportions of the rooms, connecting the spaces visually, and adding rhythm and depth to the composition.

At the heart of the project is a respect for both material and time. Nothing feels accidental: every element contributes to the integrity of the interior. Natural wood, stone, textiles, ceramics and objects carrying their own history create a home that feels not simply renovated, but rich in memory and meaning.

In projects shaped by history, the choice of materials becomes especially significant. Materials designed to retain their beauty and character over decades become part of the architecture itself — creating a lasting connection between the aesthetics of the past with the demands of contemporary living.
