SELECT & BETTER
Select and Better is the highest grade of hardwood flooring. It has uniform grain texture: mild color variations are produced by differences in natural heartwood and sapwood. The surface may contain unlimited sapwood and occasional small burls. Light brown streaks may not extend over the entire length of piece. Occasional non-contrasting restored knots up to 10mm are allowed on planks stained in dark colors as long as they do not stand out against the floor surface.
1 COMMON
The surface of a plank may contain unlimited sapwood. Color variation is prominent. Small burls, light brown streaks, restored knots up to 25mm, properly filled open checks and worm holes, slight imperfections in face work (torn grain) and burns are allowed. When stained in a dark color, surface appears uniform in shade and texture, making knots barely visible. 1 Common is a tasteful floor where prominent variation is expected.
